Celestially it ends toward the end of September. For kids it ends shortly before the first day of school, which is usually around September 8th. For College students it ends the last week of August when classes start.
My marker has always been the MTV music video awards. Once the VMAs happen , usually around August 26-28th , summer is unofficially but colloquially, “over.” Sad that there’s no VMAs this year but maybe they can play virtual performances.

End of August. As a kid, I hated seeing the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy telethon, that meant end of summer holidays and back to school.

end of September. i think the month of September is usually the most wonderful time of summer. i love the light in September and temperatures are usually really cozy. also, nature and air smells really good and the days in September have a weird melancholic feeling of longing, fleetingness and wonderful, passing memories.
i dont know if it's gonna be the same this year tho. i doubt it. this summer was a total waste altogether.
uni winter semester does not start before October here. official classes and seminars and lectures start mid-October.
