I can't say with actuality that it will happen, but I believe that at some time in the future, IMDb will do a major purge of its message boards, with a number of posters being suspended or banned.
I also believe that I will be one of them.
Let's be honest: the current political atmosphere in this country has brought out the worst is all of us.
Funny thing isone of my daily prayers is to ask God to help me "ignore those who slander me" and "to be humble before all."
But I sometimes find that to be an impossible task.
So, if I am suspended or banned from posting, I would like to thank all my friends on IMDb, especially on the CFB: hobnob, amysghost, "Dog", FilioScotia, et al.
I've really learned a lot about movies from all of you. -

Speak for yourself.
The political atmosphere only affects people who watch the news and take it seriously.
In other words, it only affects
dumb people. -

Gee, I wonder why.
You never fail to bring up your politics or prejudices in a snarky way when it's completely inappropriate.
Now, you're playing the Drama Queen, saying her goodbyes.
Geeze! -

IMDB would be better advised to concentrate on spam, endless threads about the exact same topic (many websites merge these) and making an effective system to ban the obvious trolls (too easy for them to sneak back with sockpuppets) then some massive purge.
IMHO a good rule is that on a Skeptics website I post to:You can say what you want about politics, but you can't make it personal and insult other website members. -
snsurone — 9 years ago(January 19, 2017 11:26 AM)
Sounds like a great website.
And lest anyone is mistakenI will never apologize TO trolls.
I'm just apologizing if I WAS one.
If you look at the "blitz" thread, there is now open warfare between Henery and Aloysius.
I'm happy that there is a cease-fire between amysghost and MsElleryQueen. -
HenreyTheKing — 9 years ago(January 19, 2017 11:35 AM)
I object to that. There's about as much warfare between me and derWreck as there were warfare between Bud Spencer and one of those bumbling criminal gang leaders in the films. Don't take my kindness for weakness.
And stop posting these stupid ot threads, willya. -
snsurone — 9 years ago(January 19, 2017 11:41 AM)
Why the hell should I take civility for weakness?
And I've seen the recent posts between you and "derWreck"; if it's not an e-war, then I don't know what is!
And your complaint about OT threads can be aimed at many more people than me.
For example, the OP of the "blitz" thread! -

Real problem is IMDB is too cheap to hire enough people to properlty mod the boards.
They do bookmark certain pages on IMDB to monitor, and purge those boards on a regular basis. They seem to be purging the "Hidden Figures" board daily because of the number of racist threads on that board. And the racism of a lot those posts are beyond question to a rational person. -

Thank you for the compliment, snsurone, but I don't think you have anything to worry about. As I believe dalbrech said, IMDb doesn't have the staff or inclination to monitor and purge posters. Individual posts may be flagged or deleted, and once in a while a troll or chronic abuser is shut down, but not entire lots of posters, and certainly not as part of some wholesale purge.
Most of us go overboard sometimes. If IMDb were to get rid of everybody for some real or imagined offense or other transgression, these boards would have one big "Vacancy" sign on them. -

Hobnob53 - There is one heck of a big difference between "going overboard" and deunkenly, venomously wishing death upon a popular and beloved veteran actress because she has passionate, humanistic political views which the poster (snu) is not even intellectually or emotionally capable of understanding. Fact is, what this silly, shallow woman said borders on hate speech, and is, frankly, despicable.
Snusrone is not a good person, and the fact that she is now running around serial reporting anyone and everyone who dared to call her out for what she said makes her sins even worse, and points to a lack of character and decency. Her lack of remorse for her vile actions and utterings is even more disgraceful.
That she was probably loaded up on red wine and drunk at the time does not excuse her vile actions. Hell, she even took me off ignore long enough to report me.
You should be ashamed of yourself for propping up snsurone and trying to make her feel better about herself in her attention seeking, self pitying post.
I thought you were a better person than that Hobnob. (smile emoticon) Or perhaps you really do think many a fine tune is played on an old violin and you still have the hots for snu. -

The IMDb regularly purges old posts, especially those on the Politics Board.
All of my posts from that board prior to last year are gone, but so what, I don't read them anymore and neither does anyone else. Posts on the CFB, FG and other movie boards vanish after about two years.
Posts from the specific title boards still remain from the day I joined the IMDb, and some of those haven't had additional input for years.
If you are worried about your prior posts (film reviews, newly discovered information, etc.) make a copy of your work. Many do. Otherwise, look to the future.

There are some posters that I know have died, yet I still find their posts on IMDB. Not on the politics board however. I will not reveal their names, as I miss their intelligent, sometimes funny remarks, and would hate to see them be deleted.

Thank you all for your kind words.
As hob said, we all tend to go overboard sometimes, and as I said in the OP, tension is especially high in the US these days.
IMDb does expunge whole threads, usually to keep the page count down.
That makes me sad, because I have had some fascinating conversations with people on other boards (especially GWTW).
I confess that I started some of those threads.
And sometimes, when I do check old threads, I find that numerous posts had "been deleted by an administrator."
That's what led me to believe that some posters have been suspended or banned.
Again, thank you. -

I wish folks would just stick to movies. There are plenty of venues for other subjects. Then they wouldn't have to worry so much about profanity and name calling. Although I have been continually surprised at how worked up people get over movies. I always thought it was shills for competing movies and maybe some enemies of cast members. I know Hollywood and the film industry itself can get pretty mean. Personally I've mostly just ignored things about movies I didn't see and don't care to and ones I didn't like. I will rarely if ever will post a negative comment, maybe just question something. So if anything I hope they eliminate all the non cinema categories as they seem to bleed over into the movie ones. I find it irritating to see political rants in among movie discussions.
