Was there 2 different prophesies?

Harry saw in Snapes memories a heated discussion between Snape and the head master about a prophesy about a boy. Snape said that Voldemort thought that the prophesy was about a woman so that is why the Potter family was killed. Snape was begging for the head master's assistance to protect Lily.
Did Volemort figure out afterwards that Harry was the prophesy?
It doesn't say so in the films. Perhaps the explanation was in the books? Who read the Harry Potter book series?
And where did Volemort get the idea that whoever kills the owner of a wand, the wand will answer to them?
