Initially I was against this and thought it just a strategic move so that the US could more easily get the hands on Assange. But having read more about the charges against him I think there is something to answer and so he should stand trial in Sweden. Let him battle from there against extradition to the US.

Not only was going to Sweden to face charges the right thing to do, but it seems he would have been safer from extradition there than in the UK.

The girls aren't alleging rape. They feel he had unprotected sex with them on purpose. They wanted him tested and if he wouldn't agree they asked that he be charged with assault.
