Why did the 1954 Casino Royale change the ending of the book?

Well they changed a lot more than just the ending obviously, but the book and the 2006 movie, have the perfect ending, where Vesper betrays Bond and then kills herself, so why did they feel they needed to change that for the 1954 TV movie, to a much more dull ending in comparison?

Well I mean why didn't they keep the ending of Vesper being a traitor and killing herself over guilt? Bond didn't have to say bitch for that to happen.
