Why do they drop and leave a gun at the scene of the assassination?
Did they all of a sudden have a change of heart and the killing freaked them out so much they became anti gun right then and there?

I think they drop the gun to make it look to the spectator, think they still have it and to let them walk out or its a clean gun and never been used. Guns with history are never left behind as they can be used later in cases, there's even been murder cases of where victims own guns have popped up in other shootings by forensics all over the world.

So that they're not found with the murder weapon in their possession.

OK I get that but the evidence is right there and it could still perhaps lead back to the killer.
Why not toss it away in a river or bury it somewhere instead?
I suppose this could be just a H.Weird thing.

I don't disagree, but if they take the gun with them, and get stopped by the cops, they're dead meat.
