I wish I was more up on Hammer Horror but βhorror not being my favorite genre βI can't claim any expertise in this area.
Low-budget horror is always my fave; and of course Roger Corman was expert in budgeting.
But I still can't name more than a few titles; whether by him or by other directors. It's just not my favorite type of film no matter how well-done.
They're usually just too damn simplistic for me. Childish.
Anyway, here's some random picks. Short, sharp, effective.
Low-budget b -&- w:
"Shivers"
(dir by David Cronenburg)
"Curse of the Demon"
(dir by Jacques Touerneur)
low-budget, in color:
"Shock Waves"
(starring Peter Cushing)
"Trilogy of Terror" - segment 3 -
(based on Richard Matheson)
big budget:
"The Haunting
" (1965, Robert Wise) big budget & top talent; but arguably one of the best horror films ever made. Taken from one of the top horror novels ever penned.
modern budget, modern production, in color:
"From Beyond"
(adapted from HP Lovecraft)
"Re-Animator"
(adapted from HP Lovecraft)
