    "Chapstick"
This film got under my skin more than most horrors do. I saw it a long time
ago and I'll never forget it. So scary.

Yeah, that scene was creepy as hell! Will Patton as Gordon Smallwood was creepy too

        When he
was found dead in a tree hollow
I instantly thought of Lovecraft's Beyond the Wall of Sleep.

I haven't read Lovecraft's Beyond the Wall of Sleep but I will just out of curiosity. That scene where he rang Richard Gere's character and told him that Indrid Cold was in the house with him!

I liked it. Richard Gere is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me- I think he's underrated, and I really enjoyed him in this mystery/thriller. Is it a horror I wonder? Maybe we should suggest it for

Yeah, I like his movies. I do think he doesn't get enough praise. I haven't thought about it but I guess it does have characteristics of different genres - I think you could add drama in there too.

I also like cryptids and mysterious subject matter- Mothman, Jersey Devil, "Number Stations" (like in
                    Banshee Chapter
), Wendigo, Slender Man, Dog Man, Chupacabra, Bigfoot and such. I like the genre so much I even watch many crappy movies in it- so when I find a well made and well acted film about a "mystery creature" I'm sure to remember it fondly.

Yeah, me too. I have shelves of books on all that stuff. I have seen my fair share of crappy movies in the genre, god knows I have, but I am always on the look out for some good ones.

I will give that a go, today. Speaking of Larry Fessenden, he was in a lot of great horror, like: We Are Still Here, I Sell the Dead, Session 9, Habit - to mention a few, along with other great non-horror outings. Cheers

He also wrote and directed Habit, if I'm not mistaken. Fine film it is, too.

I think you are right. I love those 90s urban based vampire films, like The Addiction (1995) and Nadja (1994). I strongly recommend you watch those if you haven't already - they are among my absolute favorite vampire films.

on my Foreign Horror list right after watching it. It's number 73 on the list:
                                    http://www.imdb.com/list/ls072494361/
                                    I don't remember
                                    Demon 1963
but if you recommended it I must have gotten ahold of it. Now to find out which of 39,000 horror movie folders I have. Luckily my external hard drives have a "search function," just like a regular hard drive.
                                    EDIT
Oh my goodness I'm so dumb- I found
                                    Demon 1963
, and not only that I just noticed I also put it on my Foreign horror list. It's number 75. I felt so bad for poor Purif in that movie- I was rooting for her. I consider that movie to be a tragedy, as well as a horror.
I'm going to put rec credits in the descriptions now.

I liked it too! There are several scenes that really give me the creeps, watching it like
when Debra Messing's character's ghost walks through one scene, after asking for the Richard Gere character at the police station.
By the way, the book version of Silence of the Lambs gives you a pretty good sense of what life is like, or was like a few decades ago, in that part of the US. Anything by the author Davis Grubb is good, too.
