No worries dude it's all good, i love checking other people's recommendations so keep them coming.
It's probably my fault but when it comes to horror i find the supernatural for the most part ineffective (there are exceptions ofcourse), but i actually did enjoy "Where's Carolyn", short and sweet it did the job.
I watched Hangman and i rated it with 5/10, i know with such rating you might assume i didn't like it, but in fact i did, i guess im very harsh with ratings but i was actually expecting this one to be complete waste of time so with such low expectations it was surprisingly better than what i was anticipating and i ended up enjoying it. -

I watched Christmas movies and anyone who accuses me of lying is his/herself the real liar. Because I watched these:
I, Madman (1989) - 6/1O
Brazil (1985) - 7/1O (beautiful but I honestly thought missed focus on the real threat of bureaucratic excess I loved how the revolutionary's demise was simply turning into a puddle of paper that's symbolic, but not dangerous enough. Trump is scarier.)
Lady in the Lake (1947) - I now have a crush on
Audrey Totter
. Crap movie though, 5/1O.
The Children (2OO8) - 8/1O, one of the best "evil children" movies, I think.
Beware, My Lovely (1952) - 6/1O (Ida Lupino is a woman, therefore I am a feminist for having watched this.)
Goodbye 20th Century (1999) - 7/1O (but I didn't get it)
Christmas in July (194O) - 6/1O and not about Christmas at all.
Beyond Tomorrow (194O) - 3/1O, yuck.
Kind Lady (1935) - 8/1O great (if I ever do the Orloks again it could make my top 5 for the year)

Talk of the Town (1942) - I also have a crush on Jean Arthur
Also I rewatched Wizard of Oz. It was on TV but there were commercials so I just watched it on Plex instead since I already ripped my DVD of it. I use the Plex app to watch my movies. I use the "PlayStation Vue" app to watch TV. Except I cancelled my subscription to that this week because I don't need live TV any more now other than to DV-R

Also on TV, with commercials, were the
Star Wars
[prequels. Now I am not a big
Star Wars
lover and I nearly hated the prequels 'cause they're so black-and-white unsubtle. But now I kinda like the ham-fisted political aspect to it because right now I fear it accurately presages the incoming Trump administration which is also ham-fisted (small hand ham fisted) and so yikesy to me.
The fiction book I'm reading this week is
Invitation to a Beheading
by Nabokov.
This was also the week I finally understood a joke a friend of mine told me almost 10 years ago. Do you remember the shooting at Virginia Tech? At the time my very funny but conservative friend said "It never would have happened if the students had been armed." I remember thinking "This guy is a douchebag. Why am I his friend?" I FINALLY

Finally watched Lights Out last night and rather enjoyed it. Not a modern horror classic, but an effective little flick with some solid performances.

Here are the films I saw the last three weeks.
Highly Recommended
The Chaser (2008) (Korean Thriller) (repeat viewing) While looking for a missing prostitute, a pimp crosses paths with a serial killer in this film by Hong-jin Na. The structure of this film is rather unorthodox as the identity of the killer is revealed very early, leaving much of the running time to be spent on both the gathering of evidence as well as finding one of the missing girls. The police investigation is rather by-the-book, mostly avoiding the bumbling cops that we see in some other Korean movies, but there are a few bone-headed moves along the way. Pacing is fantastic and this moves very fluidly, with a runtime of two full hours that flies right by. Viewer beware that there are some bloody, disturbing images. Performances are top notch.
Seagull Diner (aka Kamome Diner) (2006) (Japanese Comedy/Drama) (repeat viewing) A Japanese woman opens a small diner in Finland and interacts with her customers as well as two other Japanese women in this film by Naoko Ogigame. The strength of this film is the charming relations between the characters as well as the uber-pleasant mood and warmth that emanates from every single scene. I wanted to crawl through my television set and order some hot coffee and cinnamon rolls. Lots of food preparation is shown, so watching this movie on an empty stomach is a really bad idea. This is an excellent example of how quaint character interaction can carry an entire film. It's impossible to not be in a fantastic mood after watching this. Full disclose though: I did screen this with relatives and they did not like it, finding it too slow and uneventful.
Call of Heroes (2016) (Chinese Action/Drama) Set in 1914 following the collapse of the Qing dynasty, the film tells the story of a group of villagers (Lau Ching Wan, Eddie Peng) who stand up to a cruel young warlord (Louis Koo) who is protected by a Commander (Wu Jing) with proficient martial arts skills as well as a small army. The premise is interesting because the warlord is captured by the villagers early on, forcing them to decide on whether or not they should execute him, which would then bring the supporting army down upon them. The loaded cast is fun to watch. Koo is good as the slimy, sadistic bad guy, and his over-the-top performance works. Wu Jing is a more nuanced antagonist who has warped principles. The hand-to-hand combat is impressive and spaced out nicely, with the finale being the best set piece (Peng moves very well for an actor without martial arts background). As an added bonus, this movie actually has some good drama and character interaction too. A definite crowd-pleaser.

Tunnel (2016) (Korean Drama/Thriller) A man (Jung-woo Ha) is on his way home when the poorly constructed tunnel he is driving through collapses, leaving him trapped. Sounds like a boring premise, but this is a good quality drama that nicely increases a sense of hopelessness for the entire runtime. Focus is placed mostly on the stuff inside the tunnel, but also shows the issues on the outside with the rescue team. There are two intense suspense sequences during the opening hour. This is also extremely claustrophobic, since the protagonist is restricted to a few very small crawl spaces. Some have criticized this film for being drawn out, but I thought the two hour runtime seemed justified given the premise.
Zombie Self Defense Force (2006) (Japanese Horror/Comedy) On a routine training exercise, soldiers from the Japan Self-Defense Force encounter a UFO that releases strange radiation on a town. When the inhabitants turn into zombies, the soldiers and several survivors barricade themselves in a hotel and attempt to survive the assault. This is low budget and generally low quality in terms of traditional filmmaking elements, but it's more entertaining than expected. Very nicely paced, with zombies on screen for at least 80% of the runtime. These are slow moving zombies, but they are rather aggressive and shooting them in the head only temporarily stuns them. This is from the same production company as Highschool Girl Rika: Zombie Hunter, and we get the same nasty, bloody neck bites here too. As well as some other gory stuff. The humor is silly, but definitely amusing (one scene involving a pregnant corpse is laugh out loud hilarious). The ending is satisfying. (Viewed without subtitles.)
The Village: Achiara's Secret (2015) (Korean Drama Mystery Television Series) Achiara is a small and peaceful village with nearly zero crime. A young woman arrives in the village to research her ancestry, but discovers a corpse in a nearby woodland area. She teams up with a police officer to find the truth. Happy Holidays Scott and fellow horror movie watchers,
I'm wearing a handmade t-shirt at work today that has a picture of Santa and just the words, "You Better Watch Out." It's my favorite Christmas garb - and only partially because of the movie with the same title (aka Christmas Evil). A very underrated flick by most - glad to see you really appreciate it. Another underrated flick on your week's watchings that I think is terrific is The Border - great performances, direction, story - just a top notch film all around.

For me it's up there with A Christmas Story, Scrooge (w/ Alistair Sim), It's a Wonderful Life, Bad Santa, A Charlie Brown Christmas and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (w/ Karloff). It would be a Sophie's Choice moment if I was forced to pick a favorite.

Your viewings last week gave me the strangest film scenario/dream ever - can you image Bresson directing the wicked and vicious creatures: a Gremlin-Mouchette, Gremlin-pickpocket, Gremlin-country priest, What a combination you've made, Bresson-Gremlins!
Grab those Francos, they're great. 'Elles font tout' has one of Lina Romay's most delicious comic performances as a porn actress teaching invaluable sex lessons on three problematic couples. 'Plaisir à trois' is Franco in pure Sadean mode, inspired by "La Philosophie dans le boudoir" and one of his most visual succulent and hauntingly disturbing films (with memorable performances, particularly Alice Arno, never more beautiful; make sure to put your hands on the absolutely gorgeous
Mondo Macabro
DVD release). 'La casa de las mujeres perdidas' is top Franco, a claustrophobic melodrama, centering on the slow disintegration of an isolated family (very similar to 'The Hot Nights of Linda').

I picture a Bresson Grmelins where they cause everything to go wrong in A Man Escaped. The Balthasar Gremlins might be too much to take - imagining them heaping more torture upon Balthasar, but these are wonderfully funny scenarios.
