pakistan are off to a great start already:

Pakistan pace firebrand Wahab Riaz and leg-spinner Yasir Shah got into a scuffle during a practice session at The Gabba on Wednesday ahead of the first Test against Australia, which starts on Thursday.
According to the players present at the site, the two players had a spat during the teams practice session when they were in the middle of a football game.
Head coach Mickey Arthur, along with other players, rushed to intervene and mitigated the situation.
The scuffle resulted in a tensed situation in the Pakistan camp. Team officials held a meeting soon afterwards to review the incident.

btw, an interesting fact - no asian team has ever won a test series in australia. the indian team came tantalizingly close during the 2003-04 series. but were thwarted by a resilient steve waugh who was playing his final test.

The Pakistanis of the 80s would have had a very realistic chance against this team. Or, for that matter, the team in 85,86 or 87.

the team in 99 was damn good too. but were humiliated by gilchrist and langer with some help from the umpires. but when you have wasim, waqar, saqlain, akhtar and mahmood as a bowling attack you would expect to create more than two chances.

One more strange factoid.
Shoaib and Waqar underachieved in Australia.

Especially Waqar, if you look at his strike rate.

well, they were up against the best team in the world. also, WAQAR declined significantly after 1999. he became a medium pacer.

India's 2010 team which earned a draw in SA would have stood a good chance to win in Australia.
Pak has no chance here. Their batsmen won't do anything.~ Monica, my child, this board is largely controlled by sociopaths and their phony accounts.

yeah, ZAHEER, BHAJJI and SREESANTH made for a pretty potent attack.
but india's 2003-04 heroics in australia was against an aussie team without MCGRATH and WARNE (to be fair we were also without ZAHEER - after first test and BHAJJI for the whole series). remember how MCGRATH's absence propelled england to a match winning total in the second test of the 2005 series?

Even in terms of batting. Tendulkar was awesome in 2008-10 period and Laxman at his best. Dravid was not so good in 2008-10 period but India overall had a pretty decent batting.

I remember getting up at 5.30 in the morning to watch the India AU's test series of 99 even though the team was absolutely rubbish and lost all 3 tests.
That was series Agarkar scored 6 consecutive ducks of which 5 were golden. The guy was a laughing stock. -

A day night test at the Gabba, which does not yet have a drop in pitch and may sport a traditional one, alongwith the pink ball zipping around in the evening, might get very interesting for fast bowlers.
One good spell from any of the fast bowlers in both sides can destroy the batting lineups. It will probably come down to Batting lineups and the Aussies are way ahead of Pakistan. However, this Aussie lineup is also prone to the most spectacular of collapses. Expect a 3 day match. -

What a legend Smith is. Give him a weak attack in Australia, he will score at the least 3 centuries in 4 tests. Considering the fact that other than South Africa, every other bowling attack is a joke in Australia, he rules.
