Demi's is powerful. But hers is sadder while Kerli's is more uplifting. Kerli says, I'm going to power through you. Demi's says, you're keeping me down but I'm going to tell myself you're not. Both powerful.
tl;dr Demi's so hot there though. Look at those cute feet amidst of white dress of purity. She's a plump fertile angel here. -

Typically I think the writer of the song sings it better because you're hearing the song as it was intended, by its creator. It makes it more emotional and moving as its exactly what the artist intended.
But this is one of those cases like Whitney Houston covering Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You. Demi and Whitney have more powerful voices than the writers, so they're able to take it on another level.

You said it's unfortunate for Sophie that I never leave my mom's basement, implying that, if I did leave my mom's basement, it would be of benefit to her somehow, like I'd be her saviour, knight in shining armor. wtf
