"Daft Punk is playing at my house" will always be a staple at New York rooftop parties and underground events.

This was a period of time when "good" music was at an all time low and the bar for critical acclaim had to be lowered and these guys benefited substantially from that. All of those indie acts did. They were all pretty bad.
