I picked Beethoven. Mahler seems to be one of the most popular these days but I don't much care for his stuff. My favorite is Philip Glass. He is sort of pop-classical though.

I'm probably not guessing. I know and am telling you. I did 3 speeches on Classical Music this summer at a community college. I was an adamant music major at a prestigiously identified Catholic, Jesuit university.

I would say Stravinsky. But he's not there, so I'll go with Liszt or Tchaikovsky.
I'm not into Mozart or Beethoven or Bach so my bias may be overlooking them. They were probably greater in terms of impact.

Aren't his most exciting works comparably boring? Rite of Spring from Fantasia, with the dinosaurs, is actually an ancient pagan Russian ballet where they go crazy the whole time, maybe like modern dancers.
