Kenny G, in the eyes of most jazz fans, purists and especially players embodies the idea of commercial smooth jazz, composed purely for mass consumption. Not much to think about, not particularly challenging in any sort of artistic or cultural way, and as a result many of them find his music vapid and boring.
It's the confoundedly frustrating combination of the facts that 1) his music is absolutely terrible and 2) non-jazz fans associate him with 'jazz' music. It's like if you absolutely love pizza and when people find out they ask you "Oh, like lunchables? Those suck."
Betrayed by God. Cursed by his Blessed Angels. Hated by Everyone. -
