A couple things that stood out to me while watching it for my first time.
-The orchestral soundtrack is amazing. I read elsewhere that it was originally an organ score (played on a Wurlitzer).
-The animated colorized flames on just about all the crashing planes.
Were the animated flames in the original version?
Where can I find the original version as shown in 1927? I'd love to hear the organ score. Or perhaps the organ score was only played in the theaters, and never actually released with the film. In which case, I would LOVE to see a live screening of this with the organ.
Mirror inspector is a job I could really see myself doing.

This is the original score used in theatres with an orchestra.
The flames were there originally but are recreated here as no theatrical prints survive.

The VHS version released in the 1980's had an excellent theater organ musical score. It was only in B/W though without the tinted scenes. I imagine that back in the 'twenties and early 'thirties the majority of audiences saw the film with an organ providing the score.

Ben Burtt sounds effects are completely new. Paramount logo retrospective is new.
I think animated colorized flames are new, but meant to looks exactly like the original did (original negatives are lost).

This little "making of" documentary about the restoration process pretty much explains everything:
            "I don't deduce, I observe."
