There are many unusual camera angles and shots in this movie.
Capra's genius directing technique often seemed to force cameramen "to catch up" to the actors and actresses. From medium shot of one person sitting and one standing, to a close-up of both standing, the close-up camera is pre-positioned to precisely frame both standing. Except often in this movie. Stop action on a DVD of this to see it best.
Terrence Malick today also employs that "sloppy camera tracking" which really emphasizes disorienting motion for the viewer - adding raw emotion - to a scene without having performers do anything different.
