Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — A Christmas Carol

How did Mrs. Dilber get into Scrooge's house on Christmas morning? All the doors are locked and double-bolted from the inside. Did I miss something?
And when Scrooge enters his house on Christmas Eve, he locks the front door then walks to a table at the bottom of the stairway. There's a lit candle on the table. Who lit it, Mrs. Dilber? That isn't clear, is it?

I wonder if she's live-in help, in some grim little room on the ground floor - or maybe she's got the key to some back door servant's entrance? Times like this I invoke the MST3K mantra "Please repeat to yourself 'it's just a show, I should really just relax'".

Scrooge lived in rooms in a building that rented space to businesses and maybe other tenants as well. (This was explained in the book but not in the movie.) She may have been the cleaning lady for the whole building.

She couldn't get into Scrooge's rooms. After rthe Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come visitation, she is banging on the door to get in and Scrooge opens the door to let her in.
We know she comes and goes freely (as we see on the day of the death of Jacob Marley) so most likely is a keyholder for the building, which as stated in the book has rooms rented to businesses.
