I liked the theatrical dialogue

While normally, I might find theatrical dialogue a bit odd in a movie, it really fit well with what this movie is about, for Frankie especially. When she would go on dreaming about how she'll change, it sounded as if she had said the same thing a million times before, and Bernice's replies sounded the same way. It really gives you the feeling that Frankie is never going to do anything differently; this is also backed up by Bernice's lack of reaction to see Frankie back after running awayshe had obviously done it a million times before, but never got on the train.
And apparently this was Julie Harris's first film quite an impressive start. -

Ms. Harris wasn't the glamour girl type Hollywood doted on back then, so her film career was very sporadic. If you can find I AM A CAMERA, she knocks it out of the ballpark. Unfortunately, the bulk of her early work was on stage and live TV, which means it's lost to modern audiences.
