Carroll Baker should have played Sugar

Caroll Baker may have been an easier actress to work with and she's obviously talented but she did not have the star power to co-star with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. She was also too young at the time.
As far as MM needing to be locked away, unless you're a professional psychiatrist (and judging from your writing and flippant attitude towards someone who was exhibiting signs of real problems, I hope to God you're not), save the armchair diagnosis for your counsel of stuffed animals. -

I also strongly disagree with your harsh rant, edwardholub. There's stating an opinion and then there's launching an attack. Your anti-Monroe diatribe is obviously in the latter category.
When one thinks of "Some Like It Hot," who comes immediately to mind? Marilyn Monroe's the main reason why audiences went to see this film in droves when it was first released and why they continue to see the film again and again 56 years later. I highly doubt this would have been the case if Carroll Baker had been cast. Even Billy Wilder, who rode on Marilyn's coattails, knew and understood that the film was Monroe's and later stated that "no other actress could have played Sugar Kane like Monroe." (Monroe also won a Best Actress Golden Globe for her portrayal of Sugar Kane.) Audiences didn't flock to see SLIH for Wilder's directorial skills nor to see two mainstream actors in drag. The film is considered a classic in large part because of and thanks to Monroe's presence and it's still considered her most memorable role, so even if one isn't a fan of Monroe's, credit should still be given where credit is due.
You also wrote that if Baker had been cast, she "would have saved the money that MM cost the production company." I always enjoy reading idiotic comments from those who have no idea what they're talking about, yet come off as if they're experts on a particular film-related subject. "Some Like It Hot" was and is one of the biggest moneymaking films EVER and again, that's thanks in large part to Marilyn Monroe's involvement, so what's all this money she cost the production company? With this one film alone, she made the studio millions many times over.
Judging by your rant, perhaps you're the one who should be committed. Sounds like you have some anger issues. -

Marilyn was perfect for this film - and you can't improve on perfection. That's why this film can never be remade if rationality is to prevail - not only Marilyn, but everything about this film, was as "perfect" as it could be - including its being filmed in black and white.
