    TY for the civilized response.
I disagree because that is the bullshit excuse gun nut owners us to justify their deadly weapons.
(Also, detectives are looking for a motivation or cause to give us the insight.)
They always say it is all on the shooter and not the gun at all.
I think it's often a combination of factors that create these mass killers: mental collapse, easy access to assault weapons, psychotropic drugs, and a society that's lost its moral compass. Almost every mass shooter from the Columbine guys to the Virginia Tech guy to James Holmes to Adam Lanza, etc. had psychological issues and were on some kind of anxiety drug to treat their problem. These drugs can obviously have adverse effects on some people. People with such issues should never have access to guns esp. assault guns.
Having easy access rapid fire weapons that can hold multiple rounds.
It makes no ****ing sense at all to allow the public to have any of these guns.
I agree that the general public shouldn't be allowed to own certain kinds of guns.

Well, we are not talking about nerf or squirt guns.
Since the one and only purpose of every gun is to inflict harm technically they can ALL be called assault guns.

            Assault weapon/assault gun…whatever.
I'm pro Second Amendment and have no problem with sane responsible people owning guns for hunting, personal/home protection, etc. but why would anyone outside of law enforcement or active military want an assault weapon (AR-15s, AK-47s, Uzis, etc.)?

Home defense or in case the power goes out and doesn't come back on. Nothing wrong with being prepared. Or if Democrats happen to riot in my neighborhood, we know how much they love burning private property to the ground.

I agree so why can't we work on both at the same time?
Getting people the mental help they need with Govt. assistance, which may be cheaper in the long run then hiring more cops, using up the courts, putting them in jail for life etc.
And in the meantime getting rid of the guns that can do the most damage in the least amount of time if not all of them.
MAGA is just so ****ing wonky.
Do they want to end crime or not?
Well, their ideas for ending it is to not prevent it in the ways I'm suggesting.
At some point martial law will end in DC and we are probably going to see murder rates go up again because guns will still be there.
So why not start DC gun bans for when the Feds leave after kidnapping all the migrants there?
America is way beyond FUBAR and it is only going to get worse as long as we have a non compassion, non caring MAGA around that somehow thinks might makes right when it never does.

That would be nice (I think it's already illegal for civilians to openly carry ANY TYPE of gun in Washington D.C.) but unfortunately the gang bangers and criminals would still get guns illegally.

My guess is the criminals will just move elsewhere and do their things in other places or just cool off until Martial Law leaves.
Places that did have high crime rates, such as Chicago, are lowered because they are coming together as communities are preventing crimes with centers and other things that give future potential criminals something else to do instead which is legal and a way to live.
I should find the article that showed this and post it as a thread.

To please Israel, Trump attacked Iran, an act of war, and Trump is likely to submit to Netanyahu’s pressure to conduct a larger American attack on Iran. That the American people can be sent to war by the Israeli Prime Minister is an example of the control that Israel exercises over the United States of America.
The British government rivals and perhaps exceeds Washington’s subservience to Netanyahu. British citizens who protest the Israeli genocide in Palestine have been formally classified by the UK government as terrorists. This makes the protesters subject to arrest and imprisonment under Britain’s Terrorism Act 2000. In other words, if you criticize Israel, you are a terrorist subject to punishment by years in prison. Clearly, the British people no longer have free speech. The British media are carefully avoiding the hunger strike by British citizens imprisoned for daring to protest Israel’s genocide of Palestine. But, of course, the British media are outraged by the shooting of an ICE protester in Minnesota.
Neither do Americans have free speech. Critics of Israel are fired from their jobs. In states such as Texas and Florida critics of Israel are prevented from having state contracts and from working for the state government. Students who protest the genocide in Gaza are expelled from their university. If the students are foreign, Trump deports them. Trump is so completely under Netanyahu’s thumb that Trump has turned on his two strongest supporters, Marjorie Taylor Green and Thomas Massey. To please Netanyahu Trump has demonized his own supporters and is driving them out of the House of Representatives. Clearly in America, the First Amendment is dead even for elected United States Representatives. Israel has demonstrated its power to cancel the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
It is difficult to say which country, the US or the UK, is the most subservient to the Israeli government. For many years, Israeli Prime Ministers have bragged publicly about their control of the United States. But if an American citizen acknowledges Israel’s control, the American citizen is demonized as an antisemite and conspiracy theorist, despite the fact that he can cite Israeli prime ministers’ public boasts as his source.
The United States is a strange place. Americans pledge their allegiance to the United States of America, but their government pledges allegiance to Israel. President Trump parades around as if he is the master of the world, but he is not even the master of his own country.

                                      January 11, 2023
From time to time readers ask what it is like trying to communicate with people in an era of mass disinformation. There are a few individual voices, as often as not censored and under attack, against which the TV and print media and the establishment’s Internet sites are arrayed. It is frustrating, especially as so many people are content with a few minutes of managed news headlines. The insouciance in the population is massive.
Perhaps an even greater frustration is how ingrained falsehood is in people’s consciousness, including that of conservatives. Consider, for example, Imprimis, a monthly newsletter usually featuring one article published by Hillsdale College, a conservative educational institution where it is still possible to acquire an education.
Imprimis claims 6,200,000 readers and usually presents a reasoned and informed article that encourages thought. But often even these articles sometimes contain historical lies.
For example, Harmeet Dhillon, CEO of the Center for American Liberty writes about “The Politicization of the Department of Justice” in the August 2022 issue of Imprimis. She makes her case and leaves us with the frightening fact that the US Department of Justice is a powerful force misusing law to destroy the civil liberty guaranteed by the US Constitution.
She makes the important point that 9/11 was used “to attack ourselves” with the Patriot Act that inaugurated an era of government spying, illegally and unconstitutionally, on citizens and weaponizing information against those Americans regarded as “political enemies. ”
All well and good, but she accepts the official 9/11 story: “First the terrorists attacked us.” Conservatives, who are more patriotic than liberals, who seem to prefer a Tower of Babel to a unified country, have a difficult time separating government from country. Consequently, if there is a claim of foreign attack, like the Gulf of Tonkin and 9/11, conservatives rush to the defense of the government. They wrap themselves in the flag and become dupes of the propaganda.
Another example of the perpetuation of a historical lie is Christopher Flannery’s article in the December 2022 issue of Imprimis. In this curious article Flannery portrays Abraham Lincoln as a President who created a new birth of freedom for America with his Emancipation Proclamation.
This is absurd. The Emancipation Proclamation was a war measure intended to provoke a slave revolt that would cause Confederate soldiers to desert the front lines and rush home to protect their parents, wives, and children. Union officers were terrified that Lincoln would create the impression among Union soldiers that they were fighting and dying for the sake of blacks slaves. Lincoln’s own Secretary of State criticized the proclamation for freeing the slaves only in the areas where we have no presence and leaving them in bondage where we rule. Lincoln’s own words freed slaves only in Union unoccupied areas “in rebellion against the United States.”
One can understand that Republicans, which essentially means conservatives, would try to court black votes by claiming to have fought a war to liberate them. But it hasn’t worked.
It is a curiosity of our time that today blacks vote Democrat, the party that opposed Lincoln’s war, and the conquered South vote for their Republican conquerers.
Another example of conservatives gone amiss is Glenn Loury. Writing in the Autumn 2022 City Journal, Loury says “Racial inequality is deep and abiding.” But he is opposed to racial preferences for blacks as a method of their advancement. Loury believes, and I agree, that blacks are not helped by advancing them on a non-merit basis.
Racial inequality can have many other reasons than racism. There are many inequalities in the world. We see them in athletic performance, in the income distribution, in creative acts, and so on. These inequalities exist in all populations regardless of the presence or non-presence of blacks.
The racial inequality that we have today comes from treating white Americans as legally second class citizens. If you refuse to hire a black, the federal government will have you up on racial discrimination charges, but it is perfectly OK to refuse to hire a white. Affirmative action gives blacks rights to be hired and promoted before whites regardless of merit.
So what Loury should be analyzing is the second class citizenship of white Americans, especially heterosexual white males despite the prohibition against unequal treatment in the 14th Amendment. It is a paradox of history that the 1964 Civil Rights Act has been turned into discrimination against white Americans.
For my last example I take Matt Taibbi, one of the best journalists of our time. Taibbi has fallen for the disinformation that George Floyd was murdered.
