Why Does Practically Everyone Loathe Gazoo So Much??

codykilgore: "I enjoyed The Great Gazoo in the cartoons and I'm sorry to say that I never read his Gold Key antics! Sigh!"
I'd have to look at the Gazoo books, but it was mostly in the Gold Key Flintstones books where things got definitely hostile toward Fred, even without Gazoo being present.
There were Flintstones comic books, Barney & Betty, Pebbles & Bamm Bamm (teen-aged from the cartoons), Dino and Gazoo.
I got a few Barney and Betty that definitely give way to the idea the artist was doing drugs and drawing the horror comic books of the time as well.
But in the Flintstone books, Wilma, Dino, everyone would snarl and get angry at Fred and call him a big dummy. It was an incredibly hostile book. -

Gazoo sent them into the future before that special, but this being Hanna Barbera land, obviously they just all forgot when it was deemed necessary.
But in hindsight characters like the great gazoo are perfectly good scapegoats to excuse every single error, as honestly if that's all one world.it's time stream must be several shades of all screwed up with people time traveling and altering reality at least once per season.
Gamefaqs has a far worse population than IMDB -

I don't dislike him but his presence wasn't needed, the show was fine on its own and it was kind of childish that he was only visible to Fred and Barney.
When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth. -

I think season 6 had some excellent writing and Gazoo was involved in some of those great episodes so I am all for the little guy. Also he was voiced by Harvey Korman who was a very funny voice actor and added a lot of humour to the show.

I don't hate him. He actually was my ONLY favorite character of this crappy, lackluster, sh!tty animated Honeymooners rip-off series. Long live the late great Harvey Korman. May he forever always rest in peace

I'm a fan of Mr. Gazoo. If you have a problem with me posting comments on how I feel then why don't you just put me on your ignore user's list otherwise perhaps it's YOU who has too much time on YOUR hands lashing out on ME!

Honestly, the reason The Great Gazoo is hated is because the character is way too out of place for The Flintstones. Yes, TV's and prehistoric versions of other countries existed, but The Flintstones is a sitcom. That stuff makes sense in the context of the series, but Gazoo is an alien from the future that only interacts with Fred and Barney and grants wishes for them. That's just very out of place for show like The Flintstones.
Another thing is that there's a difference between a TV show jumping the shark and a TV show declining in quality. People tend to think that "Jumping the Shark=Decline in Quality", but it doesn't. Decline in Quality means the TV show is in an inferior state of quality; Jumping the Shark means a TV show reaches a point at which far-fetched events are included merely for the sake of novelty, indicative of a decline in quality. In the case of The Flintstones, I agree with you in that the show decline in quality starting in Season 5 in which the show started to aim much more for a kiddie audience and they included pop culture parodies more and more. But the show jumped the shark when Gazoo was added.
Just thought I threw my hat into the ring!
