Basically, the movie is supposed to take place in Portofino, Italy in the Italian Riviera. The view from the villa overlooks Portofino, which is located between Genoa and the Cinqueterre. The interior shots of the villa were supposedly filmed in a posh hotel in Portofino, but exterior shots from the terrace are filmed from a different location in Portofino. Also, when Rock Hudson is in route to his villa, he is actually driving through Portofino when the man at the restaurant calls Maurice to warn that Mr. Talbot is back early.
The location of the picnic scene in the movie, when they rent the mopeds for a day, is actually in Ostia, which is a historic port about 20 miles west of Rome. Obviously, we are not supposed to know that they are actually picnicking in Ostia because it would be way too far away (over 300 miles each way) to travel on mopeds: we are supposed to believe that they are still in the hillsides of the Italian Rivera.
I love this movie, and I love the beautiful locations. I rewatched the movie when I got back from my vacation in Italy last summer, and I was able to pick out the locations easily. Now I always remember my wonderful vacation when I watch this movie. -

My husband just tried to sing the Theme song from "Come September". He is the best husband in the world but not the best singer. What is the name of the singer (a woman)? Where to finde the lyrics and most of all where to listen that song.

The villa is located over Santa Margherita Ligure about 3 kilometers from Portofino and it's in the middle of the tigullian gulf.
The Cinqueterre is about 15 miles away from the filming area
The Villa is called "Villa le Palme" which means Palms villa and it's a private property
