I love The Color of Money, it's my second favorite pool film after the original '61 version. It's not just an underrated Scorsese or Newman film, it's an underrated film in general. If Newman didn't win for this, I get the feeling more people would forget its existence. The sequel is a great film, and it's more of a pool film than The Hustler, which is not a bad thing to say. If it surpassed the original in one particular area, the pool scenes in TCM were greater and more fascinating to watch. Plus those close-up shots of the pool table were wonderul to look at but that is where it ends. Nothing disappointed me in the sequel Scorsese's directing, the soundtrack, the locations and of course, the great acting from the cast; it was all top notch. But The Hustler, is undoubtedly a better film and a masterpiece. I'm confident in saying the sequel is a classic in its own right though.

The Hustler. Eddie vs Minnesota Fats, no comparison.
However, the most heart-breaking scene of The Color of Money was the Eddie/Amos scene (
). That scene was so good that I just can't watch it. The Hustler got hustled.
Is it okay if I do it for mom and not you? 'Cause I really like mom. -

Sorry to the OP but this is one of the all time dumbest questions on IMDB. The Hustler is an all time iconic classic, one the greatest films ever made, great cast, screenplay and direction, this film should be in the dictionary next to the phrase they don't make them like this anymore. The Color of Money is average at best, to compare it to the original is comical and an insult to the original.

You got that right. The Hustler was about a guy who knew how to hustle, albeit, not as well as he should have. The Color of Money was about a guy who would have gotten his ass kicked in every pool hall for his showboating and about an over-the-hill guy who miraculously regained his skills for no apparent reason.
Mairzy doats and dozy doats, but liddle lamzi nothing.
