I love that COZI TV is rerunning The Munsters but it irks me to no end that they edit out scenes, probably to sell more ad time. You can't fool a diehard Munsters fan, I know every episode by heart.
I've written to COZI to complain but I know that one voice isn't enough. -

I was looking forward to hearing Herman's boss at the Chinese laundry say he was going out for an enchilada, and that was cut out. Partly for seconds I suppose but probably also considered to be politically incorrect - this is NBC after all.

OMG,the edited enchilada scene was the first time that ever I noticed that they were cutting scenes, and that's what got me started. Tom Fong, Chinese laundry owner, was one of Benny Rubin's funniest performances ever and that was his best line. No, I don't think they did it for PC reasons, the fact that they cut scenes from every episode is a pretty good indicator that they're doing it to sell more ad time. If they were trying to be PC they would have cut all of Rubin's performance.
Anyway, good eye, you picked out the exact same episode that I first noticed, it has always been one of my favorite Munster moments. -

It's the scene I always remember, there's just something funny about a Chinese guy going out for Mexican food! It reminds me, in a way, of a Three Stooges short, "Punch Drunks" - the only one of the shorts that the Stooges wrote - near the start, Curly comes into a diner and pulls out and unrolls an apron that was tucked into the top of his pants - he's the waiter. His boss asks him where he's been and he says "Out to lunch!" This is the one where they find out by accident that whenever Curly hears "Pop Goes the Weasel" he gets fighting mad.
As for Benny Rubin playing an Asian, at least there was precedent with Charlie Chan, Mr. Moto (played by Peter Lorre) and Mr. Wong (played by Boris Karloff). I thought maybe having him eat cross-culturally might have been too much for some sensibilities. Unfortunately it was sort of the punch line!
The fact that it was at the end of the scene probably just made it easy to cut off a few seconds. But unfortunately
I noticed they did a sort of "dissolve" from the scene at the laundry to the scene at home. The first scene faded out and the second scene faded in. Now I notice those in other episodes. I wonder if they used those in the original shows? -

I haven't seen the Munsters in 30+ yrs and I remember this episode just from your description.
If it's the same, I remember Herman talking to a guy ironing and calling his boss from home, in a phone booth shaped like a coffin.

Just an FYI, The Munster are on Netflix. I never got into the show when I was a kid, but lately all I ever watch is nostalgic TV. So I started getting into shows like The Munster and Adam-12. When I wasn't able to catch all The Munster shows I looked for it on Netflix and was pleased to see it listed. I like it better this way anyway.
No commercials and no cuts!
