Sergio Leone's 3 Westerns weren't filmed in Italy. They were most filmed in Spain. Some scenes were shot in Italy and the post production work was done in Italy but most of the film was made in Spain- along with the other 2 Leone/Eastwood pictures . Go ahead & fact check this.
I guess "Spaghetti Western" sounds better than "Spanish Western"
Another interesting thing about this movie. Clint Eastwood was not Sergio Leone's first choice for the star. Elvis Presley was. Elvis's manager Col. Tom Parker told Elvis to turn it down, he lined up another Western for Elvis- an awful pic named Charro that was made in Arizona. The real reason for this was the fact that the Colonel was an illegal alien(he was Dutch) and never got US Citizenship. He couldn't get a passport to travel to Spain.

I am pretty sure Henry Fonda was first choice but he was too expensive for Leone

It was called spaghetti westerns because the were made by Italians. If Americans make a film in Afghanistan or Ukraine it ain't called an afghan movie or an ex Russian state movie is it
