Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Unsinkable Molly Brown

I was talking about this movie with a couple of friends yesterday and her boyfriend said that she was put in the river. Someone on here said that she was an orphan in this movie. I have not seen this movie yet and really want to now that I've read more about it. What happened to her parents? Hope someone can help me clear this up.

The film opens with the Baby Molly floating down the river in what looks like a cradle. There is no explanation for how or why she's there. Then the film jumps from the river scene to Molly and some boys (brothers on stage, neighbors it seems in the film) fighting. So there is nothing to explain Molly's being in the river. Her Pa does later on make a reference to her being an orphan, but that's all we learn. But then Molly's origins are not important to the plot (such as it is).

Not sure about this one either simply because in real life I don't think it happened. Read about Molly Brown on the internet and you'll see what I mean.
As for the movie there was a flood and perhaps her cradle was caught up in that. I really like the character of M.B. If you like musicals and need a bit of escapement, watch this movie, its pretty good. (Just don't take it all that serious.) After all is is just a movie musical.
