Ok, I've loved this movie since I watched it with my dad in the early 90s. Never forgot about it since it made such a huge impression on me. (Please avoid the remake, it is utter tripe!)
So many memorable scenes in this flick. As for myself, I can't decide between the one where the rest of the crew realizes that Dorfmann builds toy planes (James Stewarts reaction is very intense), and the clash between Towns and Dorfmann, after Towns finds out the guy drank more water than the others.
    What is
    your
    favorite scene?
edit: I know it's off-topic, but I found a very well done comparison between the original film and the remake on Youtube. Recommended.

My favorite scene is the one where Towns and Moran find out that
Dorfmann is a "toy" plane designer..

When Dorfman throws that HUGE wrench at Townes just missing his head. I always wondered if it was a rubber prop because it sure looked and sounded real.
But my VERY favorite scene is the smokin hot belly dancing.

I love the scene when Borgnine has to be restrained and he reacts like a huge, violent 4-year-old. Screaming, crying and kicking.
May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?

The first scene I thought of when I read your post was the confrontation scene you mentioned about the water. Then you reminded me of the surreal, paradigm shift scene about toy airplanes. But I think my fave scene is when Towns goes to the Attenborough character and makes it up to him.

Me too with the scene where Dorfman's exact vocation is discovered.

All excellent choices, especially Dorman's "toy plane" bombshell.
But for my scene would be Townes' trying to fire up the Phoenix, much to the consternation of Dorfman and the number of cartridges Townes' was getting through until finally the engine fires up!
When is old news gonna be old news?
