i missed parts of the movieand I know he didn't know she was his mother, but did she know he was her son??? And did either of them make any later references of the comments about death she told him that night when he was young?

Yes, she learned it during the DA's closing argument he refers to her attorney as the governor's son.

No, I think the son kinda knew. That it didn't have to be said and it was one of those parent-child bond type things.
