Let's hope that this Warner Region 1 DVD is finally the correct 2.35:1 widescreen version we've been waiting for. The 2004 Warner Region 2 release was not in widescreen after the opening credits despite the box cover stating that it was. This DVD was discontinued after a short period. Hopefully this shambles won't be repeated.

from what I've heard so far, it's going to be cropped. Just another typical example of how the home video departments of the major studios are starting to half-ass the DVD releases of older films now that DVD sales have sort of crested. If you're not going to release a film on DVD in its proper aspect ratio, THEN WHY BOTHER?!??!???

Aspect ratio stated in the Amazon listing is 2.20. Is this going to be a big difference from 2.35?
Frankly, as long as the sound has been cleaned up, and maybe the video too, I shall be darn glad to get it. -

The 70mm prints of this film have an aspect ratio of 2.20:1. The 35mm print shot in Panavision has a ratio of 2.35:1. There should be very little difference between these two. The problem with the previous Warner release in 2004 in Region 2 was that the film was only widescreen during the opening credits and was severely cropped after that. Nicolas Roeg's stunning cinematography is best appreciated in full widescreen format.

I just rented this and it is in widescreen and does include the original trailer.
It does not include the short subject Location: Far from the Madding Crowd.
Too bad because that is actually very good.
I have seen it a few times when TCM shows it about once every two years.

I would LOVE to see a blu ray transfer of the 70mm printmore celluloid-per-frame in a 70mm original (~4 times as much as a 35mm print!)so more stunning detail to extract into a blu ray disk
When.. when.. oh please WHEN!!
