the ironic bit is the hjr fellow agrees with someone who actually appreciated the beginning of the movie, and yet his whole argument is built upon "how bad the first twenty minutes."
Some people dislike the movie, others like it(including myself). We don't have to agree or insult each other for not agreeing.
The begging works really well as a satire if you actually know about Gunga Din.

No, hjr, I believe you are the sucker for keeping a thread
about a movie you don't like alive
        for three years!

That doesnt make me the sucker, it means my correct point of view has been promulgated to an even greater audience.
Except that a sucker like you probably doent know what promulgated means.

So why, if you have such an issue with my posts, do you then come on here and vent your spleen against them over a month since I last contributed.
Surely you saw the opportunity to have a little rant, and a little moan and jumped in with both feet. What does this say about you?
Best to consider the plank in your own eye first surely my dear fellow!

I dont recall saying you couldnt have a view or express it?
However I notice you didn't respond to my suggestion that you took the opportunity to have a nice moan session. Presuming that was on the mark and hence you maintained a dignified, but very revealing, silence about it.

Anyway, what did you think about the film?

Personally, I find 'The Party' very funny. Now, a while back, I watched part of a Chis Rock show, and while I smiled at a few bits, the constant "muther#%&@er this" and "muther#%&@er that" grew stale pretty fast. To me. The audience was lapping it up though, and I'd bet they paid good money for those seats.
A wise man once said that mathematics is the only universal truth; everything else is just opinion. No matter where you go, what language you use or what god you pray to [if any], 2 + 2 = 4. Art [and movies] however is completely subjective.
So let's give the name calling and sniping a rest, huh? This place will end up looking like the comments section of 'YouTube' otherwise. Different people have different opinions, so as the French say, " vive la difference!"
That being said, it should be apparent to all that the original poster is obviously a worse person than Hitler. 😉
Oh, and if the O.P. thinks that this may be "The worst film ever", it would suggest to me that he/she hasn't seen too many movies. Just my opinion, of course.

Although I do think that Blake Edwards is way too overrated and more of a hit-or-miss case, I find that "The Party" is a very funny and clever film; definitely one of the classics. And of course, Sellers steals the show with a memorable performance. Only towards the end, when the hippies arrive, it does start to get a bit boring and disjointed. And it could do without the bugle bit at the beginning, too. (Unless it was some kind of reference which went over my head).

Prahant 87 said it best when simply put its a very nice and sweet and funny movie.
Movies can be entertaining. Some have educational value too. Few have a moral lesson.
                        I watched
                        The Party
when I was a kid. Like many others, it had me rolling on the floor with laughter. I love Sellers. He gave life to the characters he portrayed. He had charm. The funniest scenes were in the actions, like that entire scene where he struggling to hold in his pee and then the complete bathroom scene.
What this film taught me was that I wasnt the only one in the world who felt out of place in a social setting. I was also clumsy and goofy (especially with members of the opposite sex). I also learned that good guys

Well said stargazer1701-1, I would like to add: every expression, every word accent, every gesture of Peter Sellers was a performance, well reharsed and well researched.. from the very beginning!
I worked with a couple of Indian colleagues in the early 80's and I can clearly tell the perfect resemblance.

I've only managed to watch the first half hour or so of the movie so far, and am struggling to get too much out of it. Just some very awkward guy wandering from room to room, obviously not enjoying himself. I wasn't laughing. I was just feeling sorry for him.
I'll give it another go maybe in a month or two. It is always dangerous watching movies which have a big reputation. Now that my expectations have been lowered a bit, I may be pleasantly surprised next time.

So do you wait until the closing credits before you decide whether you've enjoyed watching something??
I stopped watching the movie due to other reasons (the joys of having a young family). As I said, I still want to try to watch the rest of the movie, but I haven't been enthralled by what I have seen so far.
