It's been a while since I've seen MASH but I believe that it was Ben Davidson who was burning the reefer. He was an actual pro who played for the Oakland Raiders in the '60's.

I beleive there's more than one use of MJ in the film - during the party for Trapper when he becomes Chief Surgeon I can swear there's a few joints being passed around. And you know what, I bet they were real.
