"Everybody Tells the Truth". Ron Glass is magnificent, playing 3 different character profiles.

Japanese would be the best origin.

Wikipedia has a pretty decent explanation and list of shows that used the effect:

Notice most of them are cartoons. It is a mad cap technique, which is why I like it! -

Better than looking it up to find out what "Rashomon" means, you could go back to legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa's original film to see where the idea of a story told from diverse points of view began. You can probably find it on Youtube.

There's a line here that I also heard on "Good Times": when Archie is telling the part of the story where Jack gets the Apple juice on Archie's shirt, Jack says something like "This dude makes my jaw tight!" about Archie. James on "GT" used that phrase more than once. I wonder if that's a NY saying.
Annoying the world since 1960! -

Ahh
Probably not on my Top 25 list, but the whole show is basically a series of arguments. That's what makes it hilarious. And Maude does get Archie good. The way O'Connor covers his face when Maude says "You can either lay there or feed off your own fat. And if you choose the latter, you can probably lay there for months" - he's trying to keep a straight face.
