Was it true that Lucille Ball hated All in the family and even wanted it taken off the air?

Here's Lucy was still going strong when AITF premiered and Ball was outraged that such a "vulgar" show had turned up on "her" network. I don't know if she actively petitioned for the show to be taken off, but during the summer reruns of season one the show began to become a hit, so there wouldn't have been anything she could've done about it by then anyway.

One blemish against Lucy. She loves Three's Company though.
RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Robert Vaughn

Yah, they stole the idea of having a famous celebrity narrate a clip show, as Henry Fonda had done with AITF.

I wonder how Lucy felt about her friend Doris Singleton being on that
            vulgar
            show

I don't know, but did she in fact give Edith her chicken crockettes?

I think she wound up putting them in Archie's lunchbox with a Twinkie

She might not have. That turned out to be her last day on the jury, but she didn't know that at the time.

Then I suppose Arch would have had to settle for that chicken leg he threw in the drawer

More likely, Edith found it the next time she opened it.
Archie was probably eating out at work, on a hunger strike at home to draw sympathy.

Were there other celebrities that hosted like best of for shows they enjoyed?

Can't think of any, at least while the show was still going. It mostly happens during retrospectives years after the show had stopped filming.

Yeah, your probably right. Though, John McLaughlin hosted the Cheers 200 episode.

He was like host of The John McLaughlin Group a political show not unlike Bill O'Reilly in the 70's and 80's.

I'm about as apolitical as you can get. This election year was different, as I was horrified at the thought of Hilary in the White House unless she was wearing a maid's uniform.

The O'Reilly Factor? Ever hear of that? That's his cable news show. Wrote all those Killing books. Killing Kennedy, Killing Jesus, Killing Regan, etc.

None of it rings a bell. I don't watch news shows (unless it's on ESPN or the like), and I don't hang out in bookstores.
