What happened to Sally? Did the character die in the show? I seem to remember her character being killed off.

I just finished watching the Hallmark reruns from Sunday 7/11/04 and the commissioner is alone and Enright mentions that its been eight months since Sally has been killed in a plane crash and he should get out more.
Thats all that was said and thats the first I've heard about Sally's demise. Is there a place to go to get a list of shows??? the name of the above rerun by the way was "all bets off"
If anyone has any info please let me know./
        Thanks Irene

If you click onto guest appearances on the show's site there is a list of each show and it's title.

I believe it was mentioned that she was killed in a plane crash.

Susan St. James and Nancy Walker left the show for the final season. They said Sally was killed in a plane crash & Mildred went back east to run a diner. Nothing was ever said about Mac & Sally's child.

Martha Raye says in the "McMillan" series that the child was killed with Sally in the plane crash.

Martha Raye never says anything about a "child" being killed. The baby that Sally has in the last episode of season 4 disappears in the fifth season without ever being mentioned again..ever!!

Hmmmdo you have any of those episodes? I recall that she says something about how she never thought he'd recover after Sally and the baby were killed.
I do remember that the baby disappeared in the last season. But I thought in the episode with Stefanie Powers that's what she said. It's been a while.

Trust me..the baby disappeared in the last season with Susan St. James still on the show (5th season)!! The baby is not mentioned again and it is as if she was never pregnant or had a baby in the 4th season. Then, in the 6th season (just "McMillan") with out Susan St James..there is still nothing said. No baby is ever mentioned again. That is just the way is was.

It is too bad that Rock was gay. Sally was a whole lot of woman for any man to handle. In hind sight it was a big mistake to keep the show going without her. The last episodes missed that "Sam and Diane" chemistry. It sort of reminds me when "Laverne and Shirley" tried to make a go of it without Shiley.

The show was floundering in the ratings in its fifth season (I remember reading broadcasting magazines speculating about whether it or "McCoy" would be the first to go". But NBC was so desperate to keep "Columbo," one of its only two hit series, that it agreed to Universal Television's requests to renew the "Sunday Mystery Movie" with "McCloud" and "McMillan and Wife," adding "Quincy" to the mixture and hoping for a sleeper hit. Problem was that everyone's contract on "McMillan and Wife" was running out after that season. John Schuck and Nancy Walker were both committed to new series (Schuck was working for the "McMillan and Wife" producers, so he was able to do both shows), and Susan Saint James asked for a big raise which Universal had to turn down because they were working on a sharply slashed budget. Rock Hudson needed the money and re-signed, and they built "McMillan" from the old show. The new episodes were decent mysteries, but I hated the "girlfriend-of-the-week" idea the poster is correct that the chemistry never existed between Rock Hudson and any of the women on the show.

as a couple they were a big phony put on
I suggest you read some of the earlier posts in this thread, and take notice of the ones referring to Rock Hudson as a homosexual man, (gay). That could easily have influenced the interactions of the two, (and he had not revealed he was gay, until he was diagnosed as having AIDS.)
By the way, he was probably the first well know man to publicly reveal he had AIDS, and at the time, very little was known about the cause of the mysterious symptoms, or how the disease spread. It sent ripples through all of Hollywood, because he was a leading man, and had done romantic scenes with many co-stars, who then had also kissed many other people. Fortunately, mere kissing had/has very little chance of spreading the disease.
Another show with a "closeted" gay leading man was one of the "family shows", THE BRADY BUNCH. The father of the family apparently had little or no interaction with women in real life, and talked about how nervous he was about his on-screen first kiss with his show "wife".
Or, that could have been an actor saying things like that for the publicity it would bring In any case, there was an uneasiness between the two "parents" in the show that significantly improved over the series.
It is also interesting to compare this show to the recently cancelled TV series, CASTLE.
I wonder if the studio thought CASTLE could get another season (or more) with its female lead (Stana Katic) not included in the next (final?) season.
                                  just sayin'

i am only on the first episode. i like the actress who plays sally, however the way that she is depicted in the show is kind of demeaning to me. they treat her like she is kind of "silly". is this just a sign of the times or does it get better later on?

yikes! i thought that the whole point of this board was to exchange ideas, questions and observations
i was making an observation that the character is depicted in a less than favorable way. since this show aired at a time when women were often shown as intellectually inferior, i was asking if things get better later on when the actors and writers hit their stride or if this is just simply a relic from a time when things were polarized.
