The 70's was a great era for Spielberg. He has made some gems since, but not in run like that great decade of cinema.

I tried watching "Close Encounters…" a couple months ago and I like the familiar Spielberg touch, but Richard Dreyfuss is an acquired taste.

I get the Drefuss thing, yet I find him well cast here and there is so much more for me to admire in CCOTTK than just Dreyfuss.
I was 10 when I first saw this film and it blew me away. It is part of my childhood movie-going experience psyche. I also preferred the special edition when it was released a few years later. Spielberg tightened up the film a bit and took out Dreyfuss's more manic moments.
