I was very happy, I love films that end with the main characters death, murder, suicide, natural death etc. I loved it, I didn't expect it to happen since most films are predictable in the way they end, but this was special.
It's not a lie if you believe it. -

The director, in the commentary, says that the very first shot of the movie is foreshadowing Carter's death. "He's up in the window, like he's already in heaven, and then we see the curtains draw across Carter." I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it.

A violent, nasty end for a violent nasty man. Entirely appropriate. Okay he was right to knock off Eric (he had murdered his brother) and Peter the Dutchman (self defence). I thought that he was out of order for murdering Albert and Mararet though. They had been forced into becoming unwilling accomplices by people just as bad as him. As for him getting all upset about Dorothy appearing in that porn film (which was bad, seeing as she was probably underage) I think that smacks of hypocrisy. The organization that he worked for was obviously involved in vice and he did not seem to object to that film when he first put it on. It was only when he realized that Dorothy appeared in it. Presumeably it is okay in his book for other peoples' daughters and nieces to appear in illegal porn films, but not his own.

When I
first
saw the movie, I was quite young (I would say 8 or 9), and I did not expect the ending. This was due in no small part to the fact that I was simply young and did not understand the plot's nuances as I do now. However, watching it years later - with hindsight as well as maturity - I would say that Carter's death is inevitable. Then again, hindsight is 20/20, as they say.

Loved the uncompromisingly downbeat bummer ending. Carter gets his revenge only for it to cost him his life. What goes around comes around.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
