      He is one of the few actors who did a 180 where first casting directors got him for being super serious to then wanting him to be a total, slapstick funny, silly goofball.

              He doesn't really act. He just says his lines. And it's such a short scene, I rarely even think of LN as being in this movie.

                I just go….Oh, Leslie Neilsen! Anyone could have played the role, though it is quaint to see Neilsen in the small role, it not even worth pontificating over.
                As we know though, the film itself is full of plentiful solid performances. Always a treat to watch TPA.

                    I've never understood how Nielsen got that big credit at the end, "AND LESLIE NIELSEN AS THE CAPTAIN" as though he was a kind of "special guest star" of sorts.
