'Mr. Streisand' is totally unnecessary. I don't know why anyone feels the need to do that. That title strives to diminish him. The man had a full life and was known by his own right long before meeting and marrying Barbra. In fact, I think she's the one lucky to have him. He seems like a better adjusted person that adds more to her life than she to his. Then again, I don't know either of them so it's just my opinion.
In regards to the movie, I think everyone did as good a job as they could. It was the story that was lacking and the script was awful. The actors can only do so much and I always have to hold the director somewhat responsible for the acting because they have the control. No, they can't force the actors to deliver a great performance and they cant do unlimited takes but they do set the tone have control over what they put on film.
Ultimately, it all rests on the script and the story. That means to some extent everyone who signed on to do the film needs to bear some responsibility for choosing a bad movie. I suspect its a lot more complicated than that. Ive heard actors say they were dissatisfied with their movie and others say they never watch their films. I suppose for some its a job. They do the best they can and move on; not everyone has the luxury to pick and choose projects, even known actors sometimes.

When I use the name ' Mr. Streisand ' I'm actually poking fun at her, because of her huge ego. I've never had a problem with Brolin. He's a decent enough actor. He has been involved in a lot of schlocky projects, though. However, one film of his that I do recommend is a nice little indy from '92, called ' Gas Food Lodging '. I like his performance in that very much, as well those of the other main characters. Also, I do like what little I've seen of his son Josh's work. By the way, when you say " the man had a full life ", it sounds like he's no longer with us.
P.S. From looking at some of your earlier posts, I see that you have good taste in film. -

It may not be how you meant it but in our current society calling or referring to a man by his wife's name (unless he's using her name) is considered an insult to him not her.

Yes, I can see that now. I didn't mean any disrespect towards anyone; him or her. I was trying to make the point he didn't find fame, status, or an identity by marrying her. He had already been a known entity and standing on his own two feet by the time they were a couple.
I think it's awful how 'we' think it's okay to emasculate men in this society; as if that's doing something to help women. If we need to step over or on men to get ahead, we're doing something wrong. Again, I'm not saying that you're doing that but I think it's so commonplace in society people, both men and women, do it without necessarily intending to.
P.S. From looking at some of your earlier posts, I see that you have good taste in film.
Thanks. I'm always interested in hearing how other people us the boards. Reading a poster's other comments is something I never do because I avoid, like the plague, reading anything about movies I haven't yet seen.

I don't think he did such a bad job. He was charming when he needed to be and then later he seemed pretty crazy and off balance to me.
While I like both De Niro and Pacino, I don't know if they could have made that big a difference in this movie with its bad script. Besides, at the point this movie was being cast and made neither of them had hit it big yet. For all we know one or both may have gone up for the part and didn't get it.
James Brolin would have been much better known at that point. He had a lot more roles under his belt, he had been all over TV and was one of the leads on an established and, I think, very popular show.

as i rewatched this i have to say, Brolin's performance was good in the beginning before you knew he was the killer. it's the fault of imdb and all the trailers etc that make him out to be the killer that people will see his entire performance as bad. but he hides it pretty well with rosie grier i thought. then he gets horrible.
