Mark Wahlberg will reportedly star in a film remake of The Six Million Dollar Man.
The 43-year-old actor is said to be in talks with Universal Pictures to take on the lead role in a big-screen adaptation of the 70s sci-fi TV series, The Tracking Board reports.
The story followed astronaut Steve Austin - who was played by Lee Majors in the original series - whose body is rebuilt with cybernetic technology after suffering traumatic injuries in an aircraft crash.
Battleship filmmaker Peter Berg is reportedly attached to produce and possibly direct if the project comes together, which would see him reunite with his Lone Survivor colleague Wahlberg.
The Six Million Dollar Man has been the subject of film remake talk for over two decades, with Kevin Smith writing a draft for a screenplay in the 90s, which eventually turned into the comic book The Bionic Man.
Jim Carrey became attached to star in a 2003 project to be directed by Todd Phillips, which also fell through.
Leonardo DiCaprio was also rumoured to be in talks to take on the role of Austin in 2013 under the direction of Bryan Singer, but the movie never materialised

Again no, just nohe's not right for the role. To me Steve Austin needs to be played by someone who at least looks somewhat like a younger Lee Majors. Most of the time that wouldn't matter, but this time it does.

Christopher Reeve was an unknown except for plays and some soap opera and a few others including
Gray Lady Down
. I think this is the time for an unknown.

Heck no! Mark is 43 alreadylet's assume he's 45 or 46 by the time the movie gets going, heck let's say they start filming tomorrow.how many sequels do you think they can get out of him before he's fifty? I certainly will not want to pay money to see a fifty year old bionic man running around. Lee was in his 30s when he got the role. I would settle for a 35 year old tops, not older. And certainly not if you want to make sequels.

I agree he's just another bad choice for the role (although he's the best of all the bad choices, so far). They really need to get someone who's between thirty and thirty-five and looks somewhat like Lee Majors but is left-handed since in the novels it's his left arm that's bionic and I think they should make him like the novels character. Plus I'm sick of people only losing their right arms (Barney is an exception since he lost both).

I think he's a great contender. Loving the original series, Lee Majors did an extraordinary portrail of the character. Steve Austin was the original everything cyborg such as the terminator and blade runner afterall. Now it's time to pass the mm antle on to another brilliant actor who has what it takes to feel the role, after all, Mark is a huge fan of tbe original series and will do it justice. I'm open to other contenders but I am not dismissing Mark. Let' see what happens, afterall, the Kevin Smith Bionic Man and the new Six Million Dollar Man series Six comics currently being published by Dynamite doesn't necessarily portrait Lee Majors' likeness towards Steve Austin or Jaime Sommers so why does the next movie have to? Let's hope that Mr. Lee Majors himself does a cameo in homage to his dedication to the original and a huge bonus for the fans!

Count me on board with Wahlberg as well. When he first started acting I was like "Really?", but he's really won me over the last few years. I think he's a great actor, and he fits this role perfectly IMO. Great choice if it comes to pass.

I agree. Pretty much sums up my opinion of Wahlberg's career. He's really come into his own in recent years.
However, I'm of the opinion that they should go with a lesser known or an unknown, like they did with Christopher Reeve for
Superman: The Movie
. I suppose if they had to go with a well known actor, Wahlberg would be a great choice. -

I'd say simply cast Mark Wahlberg as a new character that got injured while on leave in a bomb explosion. He's been rebuilt and offered to infiltrate and defeat the terrorist organization that bombed him.
Have a different head OSI character and hell I guess you can keep Rudy with a new actor. Rudy has already had 3 different actors playing him. -

I'd agree with this.I'd rather see new characters in the movie if it's made.It could just be a continuation from the series.This way they can allow Lee and Lindsay to reprise their roles in some capacity,if they want to be part of it.

are joke titles, btw),
The Bionic Man
(the male version of The Bionic Woman), or just simply
Cyborg
like the novel.

It's funny. I was never a big fan of the show. I've seen a few episodes here and there but over the past few years, I've wanted to read Cyborg. So I finally read it and I couldn't picture someone else as Steve Austin. No matter how hard I tried, Lee Majors image and voice always popped into my head ha ha!
I like Wahlberg but he doesn't seem right for the role. They should get someone taller at least. I guess it doesn't really matter as long as the script is good.
