Sorry - everyone stop posting - look no further - the absolute best of all time:

    1. Blazing Saddles
    2. Holy Grail
    3. Airplane
    4. Caddyshack
    5. Animal House
    6. Fletch
    7. Stripes
    8. Borat
I will only choose one pic per director, as all his other works were close 2nds to their masterpiece above, so I don't want to be redundant.however I will give honorable mention to:
      Coming to America
      Ghostbusters
      Young Frankenstein
      Spaceballs
      Spinal Tap
      Dumb and Dumber
      Roxanne
      Trains, Planes & Automobiles
      Blues Brothers

You have Airplane! up there. It couldn't possibly be the best of all time.

The problem (for me) with Blazing Saddles and all Mel Brooks' movies is that he doesn't know when to stop. They're funny as heck for about 45 minutes, but he just keeps flogging the same horse until it dies. Holy Grail never does that; it's hilarious until the last frame.
I've seen some really funny stuff from classic Hollywood with W.C. Fields, the Marx Bros., and so on, but I've never laughed at anything like I've laughed at Holy Grail. Maybe if I'd seen Life of Brian first, I'd feel differently, but my firends and I recite lines from Holy Grail like the bible:
"Now let's not argue about who killed who . . . " (I'm laughing right now).

Top Secret! is the only movie funnier than the holy grail.

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I laugh more at these movies (in no particular order):
                        Neighbors (Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi)
                        The Burbs
                        Kingpin
                        Dumb and dumber
                        The Money Pit
                        A serious man
                        Burn after reading
                        The big Lebowski
                        Ed Wood
                        Vacation and X-mas Vacation
                        Most of Woody Allen's comedies
                        Several John Hughes Comedies
                        Several Ben Stiller comedies
                        Several Will Ferrell comedies
Some Adam Sandler films, especially Punch drunk love
                        etc.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Roy Batty, Blade Runner

Probably the only comedy I like more than this one is "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" although this is definitely a more laugh-out-loud type of movie than Strangelove is.
There are some other great comedies that are JUST below Holy Grail, but I really think that it's the #2 comedy, right behind Strangelove.

                              There is this movie:
                              http://26th.abcsofdeathpart2.com/entry/m-is-for-mocking-death/
(like it if you like it)
And except this one, there are few movies closed to the holy graal.
Strange love of course, I also loved scary movie 2 (sorry), South Park Movie, and 2 french movies : Les trois frres and La cit de la peur. Don't know if you can find them in English.

Well? If you're done watching all the movies listed (most, repeatedly) AND you still have eyesight, try catching:
His Girl Friday and The General (silent) as well as MANY Chaplin shorts.
And TRY to catch them (like most older movies) on as large a screen as possible. So many expressions are lost on the small screen.
"I think you'll just LOVE Peckerwood!"
