Did anyone else think that Tommy was actually falling for her?

I disagree. He was totally falling for her otherwise I don't think he would have kissed her like he did. I think he liked that she liked his poem a lot, too, and that she seemed to appreciate his artistic side.
If he was just being kind he wouldn't have kissed her like that and instead just acted friendly rather than romantic. If he was just being kind then it would be quite mean to do what he was doing to her by being romantic.
Had the whole prank failed, I think Tommy and Sue would've split up and Tommy would've started dating Carrie. -

I agree with lyndarogers815. He was mostly doing it to give her some confidence, but also to let her know he accepted her as she was, which was genuine. He probably wasn't 'falling for her' but he wanted her to know he really liked her.
None of it could have been about his poem, though, since he admitted to her he didn't write it. -

Just going by what we see in the film, I did not get the impression Tommy was falling for Carrie.
I DO think he came to truly like & most of all.admire her.
He started out the evening solely as a favor for Sue. He had no feelings, like or dislike, for Carrie before that night.
But I think as Prom Night wore on, he genuinely began to see her as a person.and a nice person at that.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.
