I have a script that is dark and controversial, but it seems so far that it's hard to get people on board with the movie because of such content.
But I figure when trying to break into the industry, you might as well make something that leaves an impression and hopefully stands out, rather than make a safe movie that has less of a chance of leaving as much of an impression.
Does anyone have advice on what they did to get people on board for a movie with some dark, controversial content?

Hollywood wants money so they DO want safe.
Best of luck to you. I have a movie idea too.

Hang around a university campus that teaches film and pretend to be a student (walk into lectures, but not classes, as they'll know you're not on the list of students). Talk to some other students that are interested in becoming independent directors. Pitch them your script.

Post a bit of it here, and you'll probably find some takers.

Oh okay, thanks, but I actually want to direct it, rather than find other students interested in becoming directors.
As for Hollywood playing it safe, well it would be an independent production of course. But indie films take more risks than Hollywood ones usually.

Maybe whoever is helping Jack make his Land Before Time sequel could help this guy out.

Oh it's just if the script has controversial material in that scares others away form wanting to be a part of it, I am wondering how other filmmakers convince others to do it, when making such movies.

Honestly, the easiest way is to pay your cast and crew.
Doing something controversial might be easier if they see it as a job.
So many stories, so little time.
