These are the films I have seen listed in the film noir genre, all except a handful I watched since the China virus pandemic started and I am sure I am missing a few. The ones in bold are my favorites.
      Night of the Hunter (1955)
      The Big Heat (1953)
      Vertigo (1958)
      Kiss Me, Deadly (1955)
      Rear Window (1954)
      Dial M for Murder (1954)
      The Killing (1956)
      North by Northwest (1959)
      Touch of Evil (1958)
      Strangers on a Train (1951)
      In a Lonely Place (1950)
      Out of the Past (1947)
      The Big Sleep (1946)
      The Third Man (1949)
      Chinatown (1974)
      The Long Goodbye (1973)
      Double Indemnity (1944)
      The Maltese Falcon (1941)
      Sweet Smell of Success (1947)
      Sunset Boulevard (1950)
      The Lady From Shanghai (1947)
      Laura (1944)
      Blade Runner (1942)
      The Wrong Man (1956)
The Woman in the Window (1944)
      Gilda (1946)
      They Live By Night (1948)
      Ace in the Hole (1951)
      Blood Simple (1984)
      Mildred Pierce (1945)
      Basic Instinct (1992)
      Fargo (1996)
      LA Confidential (1997)
      Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950)
      The Killers (1946)
      The Asphalt Jungle (1950)
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
      One False Move (1992)
      M (1931)
      Se7en (1995)
      The Lost Weekend (1945)
      Leave Her to Heaven (1945)
      Notorious (1946)
      Niagara (1953)
      Kiss of Death (1947)
      The Naked City (1948)
      Sorry, Wrong Number (1948)
      The Blue Dahlia (1946)
      Dark City (1998)
      Lady in the Lake (1946)
      The Spiral Staircase (1946)
Not easy to pick just one. I loved many of these films, such as Leave Her to Heaven, The Killing, The Maltese Falcon, LA Confidential and several others but one I think epitomizes the genre almost perfectly is Double Indemnity. It is my favorite Stanwyck performance, which is saying a lot, she is my favorite actress from the 30s and 40s. MacMurray is equally memorable, in an unusual role for him. He and Stanwyck also paired up for the Christmas classic Remember the Night. And I think it just might be Wilder's best film and he directed several great ones.

Ugh. This kind of list makes my flesh creep. So many of these are not at all, film noir.

yes i've seen the remake, and i liked it, for what it was. of course it's not comparable to the original which is a 10++++ for me. remake is a light 8.

When I was a kid I was OBSESSED with the Titanic. Also my parents had TCM on a lot. I wrote a story in a notebook that was like a plot for a Titanic film noir. Here it is from memory, but I'm sure I forgot parts.
                              Only Diamonds are forever
Two jewel thieves Victor and Claudine pose as a wealthy European couple in first class aboard the RMS Titanic. Their target is a cache of priceless heirloom jewels being transported discreetly.
Victor, though loyal to Claudine professionally, feels trapped by her manipulative nature. During the voyage, he meets Eleanon, a young widow traveling home to America. Unlike Claudine Eleanor is sincere kind, and untainted by corruption. Victor’s attraction grows.
Claudine notices, and it enrages her.
On the night of April 14, as the iceberg strikes and panic spreads, Claudine executes her plan. She stabs Victor in the stateroom. She gathers the jewels into her purse.
Amid the chaos of lifeboat boarding, Claudine climbs into one, clutching her purse. But as sailors help her in, her purse spills, and the jewels start falling out.
Claudine lunges for them. In a frenzy, she loses balance tumbles backward, and falls into the water. The lifeboat rows away, leaving the glitter of jewels sinking beside her as she drowns.
97 years later, a submarine shines it's lights on the jewels on the seabed. Victor and Claudine are long deceased.
A statement flashes on screen explaining how long after the ship itself has fully dissolved, those Diamonds will still be there.
It was inspired by hearing on the news that they found some jewelry in the wreck of the Titanic.
I think it would make a decent movie!

A few weeks into this site I kinda see that serious discussion of topics like film-noir are wasted around here.
This strictly a n00b hangout. N00bers. Rankest type of amateur level film chats. Gabfests for television binge-addicts and celeb-followers.
                                        Rather sad joke.
What happened to serious noir discussion after IMDdb folded years ago? Did it come here for a while and then move on? If so, where to?
TCM Boards are –of course –no more. I was a regular there too.
Criterion Boards, I can't recall wut, but there's some reason too, why they're useless. Credit card registration or something else repellent.
Oh well. I'm used to being starved for fellow intellects on the stupid net. That's how it goes, ya know?
