    According to Spielberg when he made this film he had yet to have any kids. Had they been around, he would have filmed the ending differently and the main character would not have left. That is straight from the directors mouth. Having kids changed his view on it. Now everyone can stop arguing a useless hypothetical about a person who doesn't really exist in a situation that never occurred. Right? lol
    btw, I know the rest of you will continue on slinging beep on each other like monkeys because the other person does not agree with you, but just for the record the director himself does not fully agree with the ending now that he has been a father a number of years.

      I had heard that story myself. I think that this change of opinion of steven Spielberg is exactly why a sequel to this film is needed and/or wanted and/or would at least be a good idea.
