shown when the movie is broadcast. Anyone know why? The other additions might be crap but that 60 second scene is good.

Can only guess it's because Spielberg hates the Special Edition and believes that the movie ended where it should've in the original version, leaving it to the audience to imagine how the interior of the Mothership would appear.

The original ending is better and the one Spielberg prefers. That scene was added only because the studio insisted on having something to sell for the re-release of the Special Edition.

And it's crappy! Having paid to see that version in a movie theater and expecting to see a lot, it was a total letdown. You're not missing anything.
