It's bizarre but this is one Scorcese film that somehow i'd missed. I picked it up from my dvd library day before. And saw it in two installments. I LOVED IT. I was watching something THAT WAS MADE OVER 30 YEARS AGO, for the FIRST TIME. I discovered the great young actor Robert de Niro. And flipped for Liza Minelli and am in awe of the young Martin Scorcese for daring to make such a lovely, passionate film. It's crazyto see a movie set in 1945, and made in 1977 and to see it for the first time in 2008. (hence the time machine title:))
I can understand that it would have flopped at the box office. But it's a beautiful film. I have already recommended it to half a dozen friends. It's a pure movie. And a movie i'm going to keep and watch once in a while.for it's sheer acting and making and of course the music.
I feel like i've just come out of the premiere and want to hug every member of the cast and crew. Nowi'm going to read the reviews, user comments and message board stuff.and then watch the movie again with the commentrary track.

Here here! I had to watch it in two installments the first time aswell.
It is such an obvious labour of love from Martin Scorsese for the grand musicals of the past, fascinatingly, seen through the eye of 1970's storytelling.
Giddy-up, goat!
