THE WORST MOVIE OF 70s!

The cast and crew were all well-paid and well-compensated for the time they wasted filming this celluloid scheissfest. The impression one gets is that of a small group of extremely spoiled small children, misbehaving at some vacation spot, until their adult minders catch up with them and whip them to bed. That said, this is a classic of bad films, worthy of mention alongside such cinematic 'masterpieces' as 'Plan Nine From Outer Space', and 'Yentl'.

Orca is one of my favorite movies of all time. The scope of the movie makes it hard to believe that it's only 1.5 hrs long. It always seemed like the movie was at least 3 hrs long. It takes such a long emotional and geographic road that I feel exhausted when it's completed. Unbelievable parts, sure, but nothing enough to stop the story. Enjoyable. -Remember- 70's!

This is also one of my all-time favorites; to which I would like to ask, of all the posters who are claiming this is "the worst movie of the 70s" - how many of you were actually alive during the 70s? Or are you just so accustomed to recent CGI special effects, gratuitous sex and violence, and formulaic sci fi/horror/etc. scripts that you cannot appreciate a movie for its story line and acting (and, yes, campy old-fashioned special effects)?

Jesus H. Christ, are you seriously using the "go watch Transformers" over beep Orca? There really is no shame on IMDB.
I really like the implication that "youngsters" are too stupid to enjoy this movie. This isn't a classic whose reputation faded over time: it was roundly detested in its day and remains so now.

far worse films than this, I'm afraid, have been made by people that recognized in a mercenary instant, an opportunity to turn a buck using some other hack director's work about killer wild animals.
You mean Spielberg's a hack (I know that's some people's opinion), or the directors of all those other killer wild animal movies? We know THEY'RE hacks!
That said, I know Changing Lanes would come out years after Orca, but it occurred to me awhile ago that Orca was kind of like that but with a killer wild animal LOL.
Take a body of water, throw in a shark, a whale, a lion, a bear, a big fluffy dog, and a human being. The only monster in there is the human being, the rest are just animals.
Point taken there.
All I can say is, it was all right for a contrived, unbelievable revenge tale that's been met with mixed reception, and accused of giving killer whales a bad name. -

Apparently, you do not know much about orcas. There have been many reports of mother orcas following boats and those on the boats in fear because of thinking she would seek revenge on them for disturbing/harming her calf. This movie has parts that are very believable, if you have done the proper research. This movie told a good story, had great lessons like showing respect for other living things.

OK. This was a great movie (finally one i like with Richard Harris) but, don't diss it. Go talk to your friends how much i sucked, not to people who like it. This board is to discuss great movies, not dissing and hating them.

Actually, the thread title suggests that this is not a fanboy site. If you cannot bear to see a film that is beloved to you held up to the harsh, bright light of cinema critique, then this discussion is not for you. If you feel you can arrange a defense of this film by means of a coherent argument, then by all means go for it.
