    Hey Raymond!
Yea, I love my '70's films, and yes, I think Empire of the Ants was due to 'chemicals' that enhance the ants' size.same with some 90's flops 'Ticks' and 'Mosquito', where the bugs get gigantic! And there was 'Squirm', about crazed worms that eat ppl! Now there's some new 'Squirm' type where they have large worms crawling up a bathtub? Which is the same idea as Cronenberg's 'Shivers' (1975).
Here, look at the title & movie poster:
    http://www.imdb.com/board/10073705/
There was also one called 'Parasite' w/ a young Demi Moore, one she ain't too proud of! (I think she bares her t i t s in this one?!) There's another called 'Leeches' , on & on & on.
As for Prophecy (1979) and The Prophecy, I think the latter is the Christopher Walken one from the '90's where he plays the Devil who catches people on fire.NOT the same series!! They only made one Prophecy, w/ Talia Shire & Armand Assante.
    http://www.imdb.com/board/10079758/
A search for "the prophecy" found the following results:
Titles (Exact Matches) (Displaying 5 Results)

    1. The Prophecy (1995)
    2. Predskazaniye (1993)
aka "The Prophecy" - (English title) (informal literal title)
    3. The Prophecy (1913/I)
    4. The Prophecy (1913/II)
    5. The Prophecy (2002) (V)
      And sequels:
    6. The Prophecy II (1998) (V)
    7. Kaena: La prophtie (2003)
aka "Kaena: The Prophecy" - USA
    8. The Prophecy 3: The Ascent (2000) (V)
    9. Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled (2002) (V)
aka "Wishmaster: The Prophecy Fulfilled" - USA
      It's all good!

Flowbeer, you're amazing!! I cannot believe the results you get when you type in "Prophecy"unbelievable!! I'm also a HUGE David Cronenberg fan, and have seen "Shivers" (or, "They Came from Within"), and "The Brood", and "Rabid", of course, "Scanners", and all of his others. Somehow I don't think the giant bug/creature films of today fair as well as their 70's and 80's counterparts. I just watched "Grizzly" the other nightI was really surprised about the extra footage, that makes it unrated nowpretty gorey in a few scenes, especially when the little boy becomes bearbait. I actually had the good fortune (at least I thought I was lucky!) to see "Parasite" in the movie theatre when it came out, in all of it's 3-D gloryagain, I really kinda' dug that movie, as silly as it was.

Funny, but I have Shivers, Rabid, The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, Crash, that's like 6 off the top that I know I have! And it's funny you saw Parasite in the day, I recall the tv commercials for it, and that was b4 Demi Moore got 'big'! I still think there's a 'bathtub scene' that's very similar to Shivers but I could be wrong. Thing is, Shivers & Rabid are very similar! People go crazy and it's just kind of odd! I wonder if he writes a lot of these screenplays as well?!
You mentioned Grizzly - did you buy it off ebay or has it been released on DVD now? What extras did they add? I coulda sworn I saw the original cut in the day?

I bought it off of E-Bay, but it was new, still in it's wrapperit's the 2-disc set of "Grizzly", and was worth the $7.00 for suregreat transfer, good sound, and like I said, I know this isn't the version I saw in theatres, as it was a PG movie when it came out-the back now says "Not Rated", and I was puzzled by that, until I watched it!! The killing scenes are definately not PG, and very intense. Great, scary fun!! There's a LOT of extras, including a really neat little on location documentary, and then some trailers, etc. It's really sad about William Girdler, as I really liked the few films that he did, ("The Manitou" is a guilty pleasure of mine!), and to have his life end so tragically is so sad (I don't know if you knew that or nothe was scouting out a new film location, and his helicopter hit some power lines, blew the whole thing up on contact). But anyway,I highly reccomend buying it!! And "Parasite" was Demi's first movie, if I remember right, and again, stupid as all get-out, but I love it anyway!! And "Shivers" and "Rabid" are somewhat similar, except for that weird little thing in that girls armpit!! I actually saw that movie with my mom and dad when it came out, talk about shivers!!!!!!!!!

So, Grizzly has been re-released on DVD now? Great, but why a 2-CD deal? What's on the 2nd disc? Un rated? They must have found the edited footage - a lot of times, especially back then, they might not have saved or preserved the tape to last 30 years..this is good news! Just wonder why it's on 2 discs!
Is William Girdler the guy who directed Grizzly? I seem to recall the manitou, but it's funny I get this one mixed up w/ others released at the same time: Demon Seed, The Entity and one other onethere was one I saw on tv years ago, where the house is holding a woman hostage, like it's run by a computer or some 'being' that won't let the woman escape.and traps her in her roomit seems like it is either Manitou or Demon Seed, since I know the Entity is about a 'demon raping' a woman..thing is, SO is Demon Seed, right, hence the name?
The 70's were an odd time for moview, most were playing on the 'evil' side of demons OR mental illness/hauntings, since the Exorcist was so huge; Beyond the Door, Abby, Audrey Rose, Sybil
hey, I'd see Parasite again! Hell yea!

Actually, I believe "Abby" is also a William Girdler film, that was well-received by the public and critics, but they had to pull it due to lawsuits from Warner Brothers over similarities to "The Exorcist". I'll have to check and see what's on the second disc of "Grizzly", but I think that documentary I mentioned is on there, as well as an audience response from a recent screening for the films' anniversary. "The Manitou" had Tony Curtis, and I want to say Samantha Eggar (I could be wrong!), and it was about this growth she had on her neck, that continued to grow, and it was an Indian witch doctor that eventually hatched out of her neck. Pretty wild movie, and really bizarrewas rated PG back then, but it was a very strong PG. Many people do not like the movie, saying it's silly, but I really enjoyed it, and to this day my sister talks about itscared the crap out of her! "Beyond the Door" is another favorite "guilty" pleasure of mine, that and "The Temptor" were my favorite clones of "The Exorcist". And you are right about that being the movie "Demon Seed""The Entity", though was extremely similar in story details, if I remember correctly.

Wow, just pulled up Girdler's page and he did some cool movies, but died at age 30 or so! Too bad, he may have come up with a few more good ones if he hadn't crashed! Asylum of Satan, Three on a Meathook? The Zebra Killer, Project Kill? Some cool titles, who knows if these are even available anymore? Maybe if Grizzly's out on dvd, there's a chance for the others to be released too?!
Yea, I loved Beyond the Door back in the day, I recently bought Beyond the Door 2, but it's not as good.some of those Italian movies can be so good - or SO bad, crappy plot, etc. I never heard of the Temtor!
So, is it safe to say that Abby is in a vault somewhere, NEVER to be released, because the Exorcist people felt 'threatened'?! Damn! ;(

But supposedly, there's been some talk about releasing "Abby", which I would immediately pick up, because I've heard so many good things about it. Yeah, how sad to die at 30, and basically his career was just starting to take off. I haven't seen "Beyond the Door 2", but I thought that got really good reviews?

That is so funny about the "jam"! When I saw this movie when it 1st came out, and I first saw the bear, I leaned over to my girlfriend at the time and said; That looks like a "jelly-bear" Funny.

"The Prophecy" was actually a decent flick, although the creature looked like a big bear dipped in raspberry jam
It's Prophecy (1979), not "The Prophecy", although I agree on your point! 🙂

The movie, The Pack was also known as The Long, Dark Night which I think was a better title.

You forgot one PIGS (1972). Ah yes, the 70's with their nature gone wild movies.
The worst film of the 70's, I have to say was YETI: GIANT OF THE 20TH CENTURY (1977). This is an Italian KING KONG clone. The music is blatantly ripping off the song "O Fortuna" from "Carmina Burana".
Tell me that is the worst.
