I don't know which happened first, my seeing Orca or my reading Bad Movies We Love, but have to say Orca is indeed a bad movie I love. Unlike most Jaws rip-offs, though, Orca is undeniably beautifully filmed and scored - and stars a breathtaking Charlotte Rampling.

I agree - preposterous plot, innovative cinematography of orcas, ice, etc., and (another) exceptional theme song by Ennio Morricone that in itself raises my rating of the movie by at least one star.
Richard Harris looks a bit confused or stunned at times during the movie, or perhaps he was just tired.

I can honestly say that I saw Orca in the theaters back in 1977. I was a child, but I didn't think it was as bad as critics made it out to be. Yes, some parts of it are stupid as hell, but I do think that its storyline has more relevance today than maybe it did 38 years ago. Back then many people had a rather simple idea of animals and how we treat them. Today there is more regard and respect for animals. What happens to the whales in this film is barbaric and heartless. I was cheering for the whale then and I have to say I still am today. I felt sorry for the people who got hurt because of the captain's bad choices. But if man was dealing with animals as capable as this whale was he might think twice about some of the things he does.
