I mentioned in another post that I liked her much better than Stephanie (at least looks-wise). But I thought Donna Pescow's acting in this movie was INCREDIBLE. She should have gotten an Academy Award on her facial expressions alone.

No, she wasn't but she should have been. She was fantastic in the movie and much better than some of that year's nominees.

Never seen them except close which was forgettable.

Probably the award as well because in a film about so much emotion she stood out from the women. The other broad was just casted and mostly went by her looks while there was a lot of extremely tough and emotional scenes from Donna. They probably gave the award to someone famous that year with a sucky performance.

Pescow was terrific and gave a believable in the moment performance. She was worthy of a supporting actress nomination.
The snooty Academy typically went for prestige films at the time that are now forgotten because they are boring and not worthy of the accolades.
SNF is my choice for for best picture of 1977. Look at the following the film still has today and it’s a raw gritty depiction of an extraordinary era.
